5 millionaires in every 100 adults in Hong Kong: survey
A recent Citibank survey reveals that in Hong Kong there are a total of 274 thousand millionaires, meaning that each of these people has over HK$ 1 million, equaling US$129,032, in liquid assets. It also implies that there are 5 millionaires in every 100 adults in Hong Kong.
These millionaires account for 5.3 percent of adult population in Hong Kong, where per capital GDP is above US$24,000.
Compared with previous year's figure of HK$3.4 million, last year each millionaire held about HK$4 million in liquid assets on average.
Female millionaires account for 49 percent of the total, which means assets of millionaires were shared almost equally by both genders.
However in view of geography, the spread of wealth is less even. 49 percent of the millionaires live on the Hong Kong Island; it hints that one out of every seven people on the island is a millionaire.
The density of millionaires drops in Kowloon and New Territory. The figure for these 2 areas is one in every 35 and 28 people respectively.
All the findings quoted are drawn from the annual survey of millionaire population, started in 2003, conducted by Citibank.
More than half of the millionaires in Hong Kong think that the city is an ideal place for retirement, revealed from the latest survey.
